Every Burner Sparks When One Knob Turns
It depends on which Wolf you own. Wolf notes that on some earlier R and RT series units, several burners may click while one is being lit, by design. A sealed-burner range watches each flame at its own electrode, so one knob firing the whole row, or clicking after the flame is steady, is worth tracing. Normal
- An earlier R or RT series Wolf where lighting one burner sets other electrodes clicking too, which Wolf describes for some of those units.
- A few clicks when a gust of air crosses a lit burner: the electrode is relighting it, which Wolf calls normal.
Fault
- A sealed-burner range, whether dual fuel, all-gas GR or an SRT rangetop, where one knob sets every electrode sparking.
- Clicking that carries on after a burner has lit and is burning steadily, on any series.
What to check first
Settle the series first, because it decides whether there is a fault at all. Open burners and a rating plate under the left-hand burner pan mean an R series; sealed burners and a plate at the far right of the control panel’s lower edge, seen with the oven door open, mean a dual fuel or GR. On a sealed-burner range, press each knob in and let go — it should spring back — check each cap sits flat, then switch the breaker off for 30 seconds.
What we usually find in Houghton
Plenty of Houghton kitchens still hold a Wolf range older than the cabinets around it. Most often it is an earlier model and the chorus of clicks is how it lights. Is it all right to use a Wolf range where every burner clicks?
Usually, while you wait for a visit, provided each burner catches within a few seconds and there is no smell of gas. A spark at a burner whose knob is off has nothing to light.
