Wolf Gas Oven Igniter
On a Wolf all-gas range the oven igniter is the spark electrode that lights the bake and infrared broil burners. Turn the oven knob and it clicks until the ignition board senses flame, then falls quiet while the burner heats.

The convection fan was switched on for preheat. Its draught can lift the flame off the burner and away from the electrode, so the board decides nothing lit and shuts the gas off. It is the first thing Wolf itself tells owners to check.
- Often
An oven in safety lock-out that only looks dead. After two failed attempts the indicator light flashes slowly and the oven waits until the knob is turned off and on again.
- Sometimes
An electrode that is dirty or cracked, or a lead pinched along its route, so the spark is feeble or the flame goes unsensed.
- Rarely
The ignition board itself, which is condemned only once the electrode, its wiring and the power supply have all been proven.
What it means for the repair
Wolf expects an oven burner to light within 40 seconds of the knob being turned. When a trial passes seven seconds without flame, the oven clears the gas for 40 seconds and tries again, and a second miss ends in lock-out. Watching that sequence tells us most of what we need: a strong spark and no flame points to the gas side, a weak or absent spark to the electrode, its lead or the board. Before you call
Switch the convection fan off for preheat and try again. If the oven fails and the indicator light begins its slow flash, let it get that far (Wolf says it is best to wait for it), then turn the knob off and back on once. If it still will not light, leave the oven off until it has been seen.

My Wolf oven clicks, then the light flashes slowly. Is it broken?
Not necessarily. A slow flash means the oven tried twice, sensed no flame and locked itself out, which is a safety feature. Make sure the convection fan is off, then turn the knob off and back on. If it locks out again, stop using the oven and call Wolf Repair Kirkland on (425) 699-2400.
Can I light the oven by hand in a power cut?
No. Wolf's guide describes lighting the surface burners by hand in an outage, with the knob on Hi and a multi-purpose lighter, but it gives no such method for the oven, so do not improvise one. The oven burners depend on the powered ignition board both to light and to confirm the flame.
